Approx. 90”x35” each
These Giant Kelp Forest veil poi are gorgeous works of art, handmade for dance, flow arts, ritual, worship, play, photography, performance, and becoming your most luminous ocean self. One is more green/ yellow, and the other is more turquoise and green.
Each piece begins with a trip to the Pacific. I gather naturally washed-ashore kelp from the shores of La Jolla, bring it back to my studio in San Diego, and use the real kelp to create a cyanotype botanical print on silk. The kelp is not illustrated, digitally printed, or copied from a pattern. It is the actual shape, shadow, gesture, and living memory of the seaweed itself, captured with sunlight.
After the kelp is printed, I hand paint the silk with amber, green, and gold tones over a sea green background, creating the feeling of sunlight moving through an underwater kelp forest. The result is oceanic, luminous, organic, and alive in motion.
These are not ordinary veil poi. They are wearable ocean paintings. They are part dance prop, part ritual object, part botanical print, part mermaid spell.
Because I work with real fresh kelp, every order begins with a custom beach trip. Seaweed changes quickly after leaving the ocean, so I look for beautiful, mostly intact fronds with strong shapes, flowing blades, and natural movement. Then I prepare the silk, arrange the kelp, expose the cyanotype in sunlight, rinse and process the print, handpaint the color layers, dry and finish the silk, assemble the poi, clean up the studio, and carefully pack the finished piece for its journey to you.
Each veil poi takes roughly a day and a half of hands-on work, plus beach travel, materials, dyeing, printing, drying time, cleanup, packaging, and the many small business costs behind making sustainable handmade art.
Your purchase supports an independent artist creating wearable ocean magic one piece at a time.
This is a handmade wet cyanotype and handpainted silk artwork, so you may see organic marks, tonal variation, soft edges, water textures, brush movement, color shifts, and other beautiful creative imperfections. These are not flaws. They are part of the process and the reason every silk feels alive and unique.
The two I have in stock are the ones pictured in the video flowing with them.
Dance with them. Pray with them. Play with them. Let the ocean move through you.
Maybe your wish will come true.

Size
Each veil poi is approximately:
90 in x 35 in
230 cm x 90 cm
The large rectangular silk creates a dramatic visual shape in motion and is especially beautiful for taller dancers, experienced flow artists, stage performers, mermaid performers, ritual movement, worship dance, photography, and ocean-inspired performance.
Flow & Movement
These silk veil poi are designed to feel airy, fluid, and responsive. The 5-momme mulberry silk is light enough to float beautifully, while still having enough presence to create vivid, dynamic movement in the air.
The handpainted sea green, amber, gold, and kelp cyanotype layers shift as the silk moves through light, creating the feeling of swimming through a sunlit kelp forest.
For best performance, gently steam or steam iron the silk when it arrives to release shipping wrinkles and help the fabric move freely.
Smooth Stainless Steel Poi Hardware
Each veil poi includes durable stainless steel poi hardware with multiple swivel joints for smooth 360-degree rotation. The anti-tangle swivel design helps the silk move more freely during spinning, dancing, and flow practice.
The poi rope measures approximately 23 in / 58 cm and includes a removable 3 in / 7 cm extender. This adjustable length allows you to adapt the poi to your height, movement style, and preferred spinning range.
Ball-in-Pocket Connection
This veil poi uses an upgraded ball-in-pocket connection system for secure and easy assembly. Instead of tying knots directly into the silk, the ball-in-pocket design helps protect the delicate mulberry silk fibers, reduces fabric stress, and keeps the finished piece looking clean, elegant, and professional.
This construction helps preserve the beauty and longevity of the silk while making setup simple.
Carry Bag Included
Each silk veil poi comes with a protective carry bag for storage, travel, rehearsals, stage performance, and flow sessions. Store your veil poi completely dry in the bag between uses to help keep the silk smooth, protected, and ready for your next dance.
Care Instructions
Please treat your veil poi as wearable artwork.
Gently steam before use to release wrinkles.
Do not machine wash.
Do not bleach.
Do not wring.
Do not tumble dry.
Do not store damp.
Keep away from rough surfaces, dust, wet sand, rain, humidity, and anything that may snag or stain the silk.
Washing is not recommended unless absolutely necessary. If you must clean the silk, hand wash very gently in cold water with mild detergent. Do not soak. Air dry completely before storing.
Store completely dry in the included protective bag between uses.
Important Notes
These are delicate silk flow props made for dance, ritual, worship, photography, and performance. They are not fire props and should never be used near flame or in alkaline dust storms.
If you would like, you may leave a wish, prayer, blessing, intention, or little bit of good juju in your order notes. I will hold it in my heart while I make your piece, in whatever way feels appropriate and comfortable to you.
